MULTIPLY TUNISIA

We bring you stories from the startup, social innovation and artistic communities of Tunisia.

I have a question….do you know where Tunisia is?  As an American, I was aware that the Arab spring started in Tunisia, that it was a country in North Africa and that the people probably spoke French.  But other than that, I really didn’t know that much about Tunisia.

That all changed when my wife and I were presented with an opportunity to live in Tunisia and work with a small Ngo located there.  Once we landed, we found that Tunisia is a beautiful country with a rich history and warm people.  What grabbed our attention was entrepreneurial sprit that beats through the busy streets of the capital of Tunis.  Young Tunisians are well educated, bright, creative and highly motivated to make a positive impact in their country.  This led my wife and I start a small consulting company and see if there was a way what we could contribute to the vibrate start up scene.  Then covid 19 hit.  Cooped up in our apartment, we began to strategize on ways that we could stay in connection with friends and partners that we had made before the pandemic.

We decided to start with Facebook, lovingly called the Tunisian Internet.  There, we searched and connected with Tunisian startups and NGOs that were creating a positive response to the negative effects oof corona.  Agile fabrication labs started making protective facemasks for hospitals.  Art galleries pivoted to online sales and started donating funds. Entrepreneurs looked for creative ways to support the health industry by providing babysitting for health workers.

As we saw these events unfolding, we started to reach out to gather the stories and hear from the main players in their own words.  Our goal was to promote the activities and voices of these young proactive Tunisians in any way we could.  We produced four small podcasts and multiply Tunisia was born.

Since then, we have been fortunate to create another series of podcasts that dive deeper into the startup, social innovation and artistic communities of Tunisia so that we can gain a better understanding of what is going on in Tunisia, and where this country is going.  So, what is next?  We don’t know….and that is part of the fun.  Please join us as we dive deeper into Tunisia.
